About HouseholdNotes

Who writes this site, how the projects and recipes get tested, and why every post lists what it actually cost.

HouseholdNotes is a two-person site. We write down the things we had to figure out the hard way so that the next person — often future us — does not have to figure them out again.

How we test things#

Every project here has been built in an actual house. Every recipe has been cooked at least five times, usually on a weeknight with someone asking when dinner is. If a post says something takes four hours, that is four real hours including the trip to the hardware store.

When something did not work, we say so. The "what I would do differently" section at the end of most posts is the part we would read first.

What we will not do#

  • Publish a recipe we have not cooked.
  • Recommend a product we have not used.
  • Pad a post to hit a word count.

Money#

Some links are affiliate links. That is explained in full on the affiliate disclosure page. It does not change what we recommend, and there is no product in the list that we do not own.
